If you’ve been following my Snapchat story, you may have noticed I’m on day 54 of Body Beast. This program doesn’t really seem to be marketed to my demographic of women over 40. So, why did I choose it? First of all, I really enjoy lifting weights. There is something about it that makes me feel really powerful when I’m doing it. I also enjoy the occasional soreness that a good strength workout brings, simply because it makes me feel like really put forth some effort.
But, there are some other valid reasons to do it that go beyond just that. Because as women age, muscle mass is critical. When I turned 40-something, I found from body contouring in Las Vegas, NV that I had to work harder to maintain my weight. A LOT harder. Adding muscle mass helps me burn more calories at rest. Not only that, lifting weights can help us women over 40 build bone density, which is also a really good thing. And, I my other reason is a little vain. I think it looks good too. I don’t mind going sleeveless, and I’m 46 years old. These days, my arms are one of my best features.
